Did you know you can get a dental check up and dental hygiene appointment through the Treatment Benefit Scheme. Th scheme is run by the Department of Employment Affairs and Social Protection (DEASP).
Dental treatment are subsidised and available to insured workers, the self-employed and retired people who have the required number of PRSI contributions.
Under the Treatment Benefit Scheme, you may qualify for:
- Dental check up and cleaning
- Eye sight test
- Hearing aid test
PRSI Dental Benefits
Under this scheme, you can get one dental examination a calendar year.
You can also avail of a teeth cleaning for €15 per year.
A contribution of €42 is made towards more complex periodontal treatment, you will need to pay the balance if applicable.
The Plaza Health team will check your eligibility and make a claim for you. We will need your Personal Public Service Number (PPS number), date of birth and signature to make a claim.

5 Reasons to get a PRSI Dental Check up & Cleaning
1. Oral Cancer Check
Oral cancer is a killer disease. As part of your PRSI dental check up we will carry out an oral cancer screening, the Plaza Health dentist looks over the inside of your mouth to check for red or white patches or mouth sores. We will also feel the tissues in your mouth to check for lumps or other abnormalities. Lastly, the dentist will examine your throat and neck for lumps.
2. Spotting Problems
The Plaza Health dentist will look for cavities during a PRSI dental checkup. We will examine your teeth, looking for soft spots, and use a digital intra-oral X-ray to check between your teeth. Many patients who might have had a cavity for a while, may get a toothache, especially after you drink or eat something very hotter very cold.
3. Bad Breath
No body wants smelly breath. Bad breath is often a sign of gum disease. The Plaza Health dentist will be able to diagnose the cause of your bad breath and put in place a plan too banish it.
4. Bleeding Gums
Bleeding of the gums can be caused by brushing your teeth too hard but it could also be a more serious problem. Bleeding gums can also indicate more serious conditions such as periodontitis or leukemia (cancer of the blood). The Plaza Health dentist will help diagnose the cause of your bleeding gums and put in place a plan to treat your gums.
5. Whiter Teeth
During your PRSI dental cleaning the Plaza Health dentist will polish your teeth and remove the surface stains and keep your gums clean and healthy. If your gums are red and inflamed, it makes your teeth look less unhealthy. A scale and polish will make the teeth look cleaner and brighter.
