Dentists and orthodontists can both administer Invisalign treatment to patients. But should you get Invisalign from a dentist or an Invisalign Specialist Orthodontist? Who’s the best place to give you an amazing smile?

What is Invisalign?

Invisalign therapy straightens teeth with a series of clear, plastic aligners. Patients like Invisalign because it’s pretty much invisible, and cleaning your teeth is very easy with this treatment.

Invisalign was created for dentists to use for simple treatments. However, Invisalign is a lot more capable now, so more and more orthodontists have started to use it to provide high-quality treatment.

In fact, orthodontists have become the preferred Invisalign provider, because they create provide better smiles.

Although Invisalign has progressed a lot, treatment still needs to be planned, the smile designed taking into account the patients individual requirements, goals and biology.

Invisalign is highly customisable, to fully leverage that benefit you need the skills and training that a Specialist Orthodontist possesses.

Few dentists can design, customise or modify an Invisalign treatment as effectively as a real Specialist.

How Invisalign works

Invisalign works through a set of clear plastic aligners.

The aligners are custom made for each patient from a digital scan of the teeth and gums.

Dr Perry will design a treatment plan using aligners to move the teeth into the correct position.

As part of your treatment small attachments are placed onto the teeth, these allow the aligner to better grip your teeth, helping them move.

These attachments might need to be repositioned at certain points during treatment. Attachments are removed at the end of treatment.

You will also need scans taken at certain points of your treatment to help Dr Perry refine your smile.

At the end of treatment patients will be fitted with a bonded retainer to keep the teeth in their new position, and provided with removeable retainers that are worn at night.

Dr Perry likes to give his patients 2 years of follow up care.

Is Invisalign right for you?

The good news is that Invisalign can treat a wide variety of smile concerns:

  • Gapped teeth
  • Crowded teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Crossbite

Treatment times are similar to regular braces.

However, only an orthodontist has the skills and training to maximise the tools that Invisalign provide.
